Fatherhood seems to be agreeing with Scott Pendlebury after the Magpies captain was recognised for another impressive performance by the coaches.

Since Jax Pendlebury’s birth, Collingwood hasn’t lost a game, and Pendlebury has been rewarded with 19 out of a possible 20 votes in the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year award.

After claiming a maximum ten votes in round nine, the 29-year-old polled nine votes for his leading role in the Magpies’ 45-point victory over the Brisbane Lions on Sunday afternoon.

Pendlebury amassed 31 possessions (12 contested), seven clearances, eight tackles, nine inside-50s and three goal assists as his side overcame an inaccurate day in front of goals to run away with the four points.

Collingwood’s engine room proved a class above the young Lions, as vice-captains Taylor Adams (33 disposals, five clearances, three inside 50s, one goal) and Steele Sidebottom (34 disposals, eight marks, three clearances, seven tackles, five inside 50s, one goal) flexed their muscles to ensure the contest was played on the Magpies’ terms.

Small forward Jamie Elliott continued his stellar run of form since returning from injury, kicking 4.4 along with 14 possessions, eight marks and four tackles.

On a disappointing day for the Lions, it was all about the Daynes. Former Magpie and now Brisbane captain Dayne Beams was the away side’s best, polling six of Nathan Buckley and Chris Fagan’s votes after gathering 28 disposals, three marks, six clearances, five tackles and a goal.

His colleague Dayne Zorko was just as impressive for the Queenslanders, adding 28 touches of his own, 10 clearances, seven tackles and two goals.

Two of the top ten spots on the AFLCA leader board are now occupied by the Black and White stripes, with Pendlebury and Adams sitting sixth and eighth respectively in the 2017 voting.
