Collingwood wingman Clinton Young has been charged with rough conduct following his collision with Essendon strongman Paul Chapman during Friday’s thrilling ANZAC Day win.

Young’s clash with Chapman took place deep inside Essendon’s attacking fifty late in the third quarter.

It was graded as a Level One Rough Conduct charge, being deemed to be negligent, high contact and of low impact.

With an early plea, Young can accept 93.75 points towards his record and remain available for selection against Carlton this Friday night.

The Match Review Panel provided the following assessment of the incident:
“Clinton Young, Collingwood, has been charged with a Level One Engaging in Rough Conduct Offence (125 demerit points, one-match sanction) for engaging in rough conduct against Paul Chapman, Essendon, during the third quarter of the Round Six match between Collingwood and Essendon, played at the MCG on Friday April 25, 2014.

“In summary, he can accept a reprimand and 93.75 demerit points towards his future record with an early plea.   Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Essendon Football Club, the incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points).

“This is a total of four activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level One Offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction. He has no existing good or bad record. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to a reprimand and 93.75 demerit points towards his future record.”

Young’s collision with Chapman was not the only incident from Friday’s game that was assessed by the Match Review Panel.

Essendon’s Jason Winderlich was charged with striking Collingwood defender Nick Maxwell during the third quarter. The speedster can accept a reprimand and 70.31 demerit points towards his future record with an early plea.
