Three Collingwood midfielders have been nominated for tonight's AFL Players Association’s MVP Award.

Each player across the league must vote for the three teammates he considers to have been the most valuable during the season. Each club’s votes are then tallied to form a nomination list comprising 54 players across the 18 teams.

Scott Pendlebury, Steele Sidebottom and Dane Swan were the three Collingwood players nominated by their teammates.

The next stage sees all AFL players voting on a 3-2-1 basis from amongst the nominees from the 17 other clubs. The votes are tallied and the player with the most amount of votes wins the honour of MVP and receives the Leigh Matthews Trophy.

Other Magpies to be nominated for the remaining categories include Luke Ball (The Robert Rose Award – Most Courageous Player), Sam Dwyer (Best First Year Player), Nick Maxwell (Best Captain).

Darren Millane (1990) and Dane Swan (2010) are past winners of the AFL Players Association's MVP Award. Gavin Brown won the Robert Rose Award as the Most Courageous Player in 1991 and 1992 and Tony Shaw was named Best Captain in 1990.

The AFL Players Association’s MVP Award Winners will be announced this evening and will be broadcast exclusively on Fox Footy at 9.30pm (AEST).
