The Collingwood Football Club Foundation, in partnership with the Salvation Army and the Victorian State Government’s Homelessness Innovation Action Plan has launched a new social housing project in Melbourne.

On Monday afternoon, Collingwood President Eddie McGuire, The Hon Wendy Lovell Minister for Housing and Major Brendan Nottle from the Salvation Army officially launched the Magpie Nest Housing Project at the first two houses in Preston.

The Magpie Nest Housing Project aims to make a difference in the lives of people experiencing homelessness by providing affordable accommodation and mentoring support.

The goal is to provide good quality housing, safe accommodation, reduced rents, wrap-around case management, and links to mental health services, employment and training assistance.

The CFC Foundation will provide funding for the project and work with a range of partners to establish the houses and deliver services to the project participants.

The first phase of the project has seen two houses made available to homeless people in Melbourne with the first six tenants having recently moved in.

Salvation Army case workers, funded by the State Government’s Homelessness Innovation Action Plan, will identify and mentor participants and oversee the day to day operation of the houses.

The project targets those sleeping rough on the streets and in unsafe rooming houses.
