The Collingwood Football Club would like to congratulate Robert Harvey on his induction tonight into the AFL Hall of Fame.??

The dual Brownlow medallist, a revered figure at St Kilda where he played 383 matches over a record 21 seasons, is currently working by the side of Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley as an assistant with responsibility for the mid-field.

“On behalf of all at Collingwood, I would like to congratulate Rob and the other 2012 inductees. In our game, induction into the Hall of Fame is a distinction of the highest order. It is acknowledgement of a long and deep contribution to the game, something all of them have made.”

Harvey joined Collingwood this season after stints as an assistant coach with Carlton (2009-10) and St Kilda (2011), linking up with one of his great contemporaries, Buckley.??

“As a legend of St Kilda, I admired from afar his relentlessness, his fierce determination to succeed and to get the best out of himself,” Buckley said of Harvey.??

“It’s now a great pleasure and a real asset to be tapping into that, working side by side with him at Collingwood.”

Already one of the most decorated players in AFL history, with four best and fairest awards, eight All-Australian jumpers and Brownlow medals in 1997 and 1998, Harvey’s admission to the Hall of Fame places him firmly among the greats of the game.

Before tonight’s ceremony, only 239 inductees had been admitted to the AFL pantheon.
