The Collingwood Football Club has become a signatory to Australian Marriage Equality (AME).

The decision to support AME is consistent with Collingwood’s commitment to the principle of universal equality.

Peter Murphy, Collingwood interim Chief Executive, said: “Equality is a right. It is no more complicated than that.

“Collingwood must be a home that is comfortable for all of its people, a place where inclusion, not exclusion, is valued and real.

“The club has a close partnership with Stand Up Events, to support the LGBTIQ communities and to raise awareness of sexual and gender equality.

“Hopefully, support for same sex marriage reinforces to each and every member of the Collingwood family that in Black and White we are one, regardless of gender, sexuality and cultural background.”

Nearly 1700 organisations have made the commitment to AME via an open letter of support. Collingwood’s support has been announced as postal votes from the Australian Bureau of Statistics have started to arrive in letterboxes, seeking a response to the Federal Government’s Australian Marriage Law Survey.
