Brodie Grundy's recall to the senior side means Collingwood's top three picks from the 2012 National Draft will play their first AFL match together this weekend.

The Pies selected three South Australians with picks 18 through 20 – Grundy, Ben Kennedy and Tim Broomhead.

"It's very exciting. Obviously it's the first time we've all played together at AFL level, Kennedy said.

"We're obviously used to playing with each other so we're really looking forward to running out there tomorrow night."

Kennedy, who was one of the Pies' better players with 21 touches and two goals in the 10-goal loss to West Coast last Sunday, is poised to sign a contract extension.

"I think we've got a lot of positives. When you look around at all the young blokes that we've got and we've got two young blokes that haven't played games yet in Matt Scharenberg and 'Freo' (Nathan Freeman) as well," Kennedy said.

"I'm very excited about the direction the club's going with our young players. So I think we've got a very bright future."

Broomhead, who has impressed in five games since making his debut in round 13 against the Western Bulldogs, is also closing in on re-signing with the Magpies.

"I'm out of contract...I'm just sort of working through it with my manager in the last couple of weeks," Broomhead said.

"We should sort it out soon."

Jackson Ramsay, a 19-year-old defender from Western Australia, was the fourth and final Magpie selected in the 2012 draft.

He has played 25 games at VFL level in the past two years, where he is averaging 17.3 disposals and 3.3 tackles per game this season.

The 203cm Grundy has spent the past four games in the VFL, but earned a recall to face the Brisbane Lions at the MCG on Saturday night."I'm not really disappointed (to have played in the VFL) because I'm still only 20 years old, I'm still developing and learning as I go," Grundy said.

"Playing a bit last year towards the end of the season put a bit of an unrealistic expectation on myself.

"I've been able to get some good development in playing in the twos the last few weeks.

"I've handled it the best I could. I think my training has improved. When I went back down I tried to just reassess and see where I was at.

"I feel like my training has really improved and gone to the next level over the last month."
