If you’re thinking the Pies’ forward line has been on fire so far in 2018, how about this statistical proof from our resident historian Michael Roberts.

Michael has confirmed that this the first time since 2002 that Collingwood has had five players kick five or more goals in a game in the same season.

Mason Cox became the fifth Magpies player to achieve the feat this year when he snagged five goals in the 42-point win over Melbourne in the Queen’s Birthday game.

The other players who have kicked five goals or more this season are Jordan De Goey (five against the Brisbane Lions in round seven and six against St Kilda in round nine), Will Hoskin-Elliott (six against Fremantle in round 11), Josh Thomas (five against Carlton in round three) and Jaidyn Stephenson (five against Adelaide in round four).

The Pies who kicked five goals or more back in 2002 were Scott Cummings, Josh Fraser, Brodie Holland, Alan Didak and Chris Tarrant.

The record number of Collingwood players kicking five or more goals in a season is seven. That record was set in 1983 and equalled in 1989.
