The Gavin Brown Award is named after one of Collingwood’s favourite sons.

And while all who bled Black and White loved Brown’s skills and athleticism, it was the way he played that game that endeared him to the Magpie Army like few others.

The Award struck in his name back in 2005 has had changes to its voting system in recent years, but it has always been in place to recognise those who commit themselves to the team each week.

In 2018, the winner of the Gavin Brown Award is Jack Crisp.

Crisp enjoyed the best of his four seasons at Collingwood, solidifying a new role at half back and providing run and drive through the wings and into attack.

But the way he applied himself to the task shone through.

True to the Award’s calling, Crisp laid 86 tackles and won a career-high 212 contested possessions.

He also took 13 contested marks – by far the best return of his career to date – and a further 38 intercept marks, many of which involved a high degree of courage that Brown himself displayed in his 254 games in the Black and White stripes.

Crisp rarely receives the fan fare he deserves, but should he continue to serve up seasons like 2018, it won’t take long the football public starts to take notice.
