Collingwood has launched its very first women's sport podcast, 'Coffee with Braz'. Hosted by the club's female dual-athlete Ash Brazill, each week she'll chat with a teammate from Collingwood's AFLW or Super Netball teams over a cup of coffee.
The podcast not only aims to tell the story of the athlete's sporting journey but also hopes to show that there's also more to the person than just playing sport. Each episode will uncover the motivations of the player and how they have overcome challenges they have faced in their life.
In episode three, Brazill is joined by one of the most unique players on the team, Ebony O'Dea.
Not only is she a World Champion Unicyclist, O'Dea can also recite Pi on the spot. You'll also often find her solving a rubrics cube pre-game.
A person who is true to herself, O'Dea is an extremely passionate and dedicated athlete. Having taken up footy as a bit of fun at university, she had no idea that it could lead her to the AFLW.
After being drafted to the GWS Giants in 2018, she packed up her bags and moved to New South Wales leaving her family, including her identical twin sister, back home in South Australia. Unfortunately, O'Dea wasn't selected for a single game before being delisted at the end of the season.
Determined to make it back into the AFLW, she focused on changing her mindset in order to improve her fitness and running skills to give herself the best possible opportunity of again being drafted. Her hard worked ultimately paid off having been picked up by the Pies at the 2019 AFLW Draft.
