Arlo Draper has been singing the Collingwood club song since he could talk, but the Tasmanian-born South Australian wasn't a day one Pies fan.

"I didn't support Collingwood growing up but I've known the words to the song since I was a kid," Draper said, giving context to a home video showing a young Arlo's rendition of Good Old Collingwood Forever.

"Of course I'm a Collingwood supporter now."

Drapes (also affectionately dubbed Curtains) was selected at pick 45 last Thursday night, following a season with South Adelaide where he spent most games in the midfield with stints across half-forward.

"The draft was probably the most emotion I've ever felt in one night - it went from 0 to 100 pretty quick," the 18-year-old said.

"As soon as it happened I was getting texts from the players, it was insane.

"I'm so grateful to Collingwood for giving me the opportunity to come here and start this journey."

Drapes wins the bulk of his possessions on the inside, is a classy ball user and his versatility has seen him spend time in all thirds of the ground.

"I played everywhere in the juniors - forward, back and mid - but this year it has been more mid-forward," he said.

"Versatile is the main word I'd use to describe my game, I like to think I make good decisions and can be pretty crafty up forward and kick a couple of goals."

He added that it felt like the perfect time to join the club at the start of a new era under a new head coach.

"The whole club is beginning a new phase with a lot of new faces among the players and coaches," he said.

"Everyone I've met here has been really nice and welcoming and it seems like a great time to be joining the club."
