Collingwood were not strong enough for the Blues on Saturday, going down 4.8 (32) to Carlton 5.5 (35).

After a low scoring first half, it looked to be a challenge to break through. Trailing by one point at half time, Carlton got the rev up they needed to score three unanswered goals.

Chloe McMillian was disappointed in especially the third quarter, but believes the team did not play at their best from the beginning.

“The third quarter we didn’t start the way we wanted to. The three goals that they kicked really hurt us and it put us in a hard position to come back from”, McMillian said.

With the largest margin of the match at three quarter time, Collingwood had some work to do in the fourth.

Hales, with the goal of the match, kept the game alive early in the fourth. Dojiok’s skills were on show with another handy goal, trailing the Blues by five.

With all the momentum at the centre bounce, the Pies did all the hard work, however a couple of behinds in the last minute was not enough to come out on top.

“It was a credit to the girls in the last quarter that were able to fight back and kick two goals and five points. If some of those went the other way it would be a different story but it is disappointing that we let ourselves get in that position and then had to claw our way back from there”, McMillian said.

With Matilda Zander playing in the midfield, it gave the team some drive when they needed it most.

“It was good to see Matilda Zander play a different role given we had a couple of players out due to Health and Safety Protocols and with injury. She played her new role in the midfield and really excelled at that”, McMillian said.

Nyokat Dojiok was excellent again in the forward line, showcasing her ability to be a leading target up forward.

“Dojiok’s two goals changed the game for us and she was someone who we could rely on inside 50 and looked really dangerous every time we went inside. She’s someone who has grown in that position is someone that will keep developing in the forward line”, McMillian said.

Collingwood will look to reset this week before their round seven match against Casey Demons. The match will be played at AIA Centre at 10am and will be part of a double header with Collingwood’s VFL team which begins at 2.05pm.
