The Collingwood Football Club thanks 2010 Premiership Captain and Head of Football Operations and Performance Nick Maxwell who will depart the Magpies after the Club’s Round 17 game to take on the role of CEO of Eclat.

On the field, Nick’s football career in the black and white started in 2002 when he was taken with selection number 15 in the Rookie Draft before making his long-awaited AFL debut in 2004.

A Collingwood Life Member, Nick went on to play 208 games (kicking 29 goals) and became the 45th Captain of the Club, holding the role from 2009 – 2013.  An ever-reliable defender, Maxwell took home the Gavin Brown Award in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2012.

In addition to being a Premiership Captain, he was named All Australian in 2009, won three Best Clubman awards (2007, 2010 and 2011) and placed second in Collingwood’s Best and Fairest in 2009.

Nick Maxwell said he was thankful for all the opportunities presented to him at the Collingwood Football Club and was disappointed to be leaving during the 2022 campaign.

“I remain forever grateful to the Collingwood Football Club for the initial opportunity to play AFL and to then work at the Club. It’s going to be difficult leaving so many great people, but the opportunity is one I couldn’t overlook and I have worked closely with the Club to put a strong plan in place to ensure there will be no disruption to the men’s program,” Maxwell said.

“The Club is in great hands, and I look forward to supporting with my family on the sidelines. I won’t be a stranger and will still be around in my role as a past player and will work with the Past Players’ Group to keep that connection with the Club strong.”

Prior to his role as Head of Football Operations and Performance, Nick served in a Leadership and Culture role across the AFLW and netball programs.

“The growth of the Club since I entered the building in 2002 has been phenomenal. We went from a couple of programs to now having eight sides representing the black and white,” Maxwell said.

“Through my work with the women’s programs, I have learnt so much from our amazing women athletes across AFLW and netball and I am really proud of how they continue to grow each respective sport and build a strong legacy for the Collingwood Football Club while inspiring the next generation of women athletes.”

Collingwood General Manager Football Graham Wright thanked Nick for his impact on and off the field.

“On behalf of the Collingwood Football Club, we thank Nick Maxwell for his contribution to the Club across the last 20 years and congratulate him on all that he’s achieved in the black and white,” Wright said.

“Although we are disappointed to lose Nick at this time of the season, we fully understand and support his decision. Nick’s leadership is a trait of his that comes naturally and the opportunity to be a CEO and lead an organisation is one he has been working towards for some time.

“As Vice President of our Past Players’ Group, Nick will continue to be involved with the Club and again, we thank him for all he’s done for the football and netball programs and congratulate him on his playing career at Collingwood.”
