It was the Lions that got off to a fast start, kicking five first quarter goals to our two. Young defender Jakob Ryan was exciting early, finishing the first quarter with seven disposals. The highlight of the quarter was a beautiful dancing snap from Joe Richards. 21 points separated the side at the first break.

The second quarter was a bit more evenly played, however the Lions were able to hold on to their lead. Finlay Macrae finished off a particularly nice passage of transition play from the boys. An equally impressive goal from Jacob Booth put the Pies within arms reach of the Lions, but some impressive play from the home side kept the deficit out to 23 points at half time.

Despite an early goal from the Lions to start the third quarter, our effort was still showing. Some strong team play was finished off nicely by Jedd Longmuir. Unfortunately that was the only score for the Pies that quarter, with the Lions able to extend their lead to 32 points. Neville Jetta and Trey Ruscoe were particularly impressive in the third, holding down the fort across the half-backline.

With hope still in the hearts of the boys, it was a brutal start to the final quarter. The Lions kicked early goals at the start of every quarter across the game, which made it difficult to wrestle back momentum.

Despite some strong efforts across the board. The Lions were too good on the day and ran away with the game by 67 points.
