The only change to the Magpie line up, Maxwell comes in for Heath Shaw who is suffering from a back complaint. The club is confident, however, that the rebounding defender will just miss one week.
“He just has some stiffness in his back and should be right for next week,” chief of football Geoff Walsh told collingwoodfc.com.au on Thursday.
Maxwell comes into the team after missing a month of football with a calf injury sustained in the round 12 draw against Melbourne.
Saturday will also mark milestones for two Magpies with Ben Johnson set to run out for his 200th career game alongside Tyson Goldsack who will play his 50th game.??
Johnson, who was selected by the club with pick 62 overall in the 1999 draft, has played an integral role in the side’s success this decade. Runner up in the Copeland Trophy in 2004 and 2006 (equal), Johnson has forged a fine 11 season career with the Magpies as a ball-winning midfielder and a running defender capable of shutting down a key opposition forward.
Josh Fraser, Luke Rounds and Simon Buckley have been named as the three emergencies. Fraser remains perched on 199 AFL games.??
Richmond, meanwhile, has made six changes to its side, four forced with young gun Trent Cotchin missing the next two weeks due to suspension.
Mitch Morton (56 games, 93 goals), Dean Polo (55 games, 11 goals), Alex Rance (22 games, 7 goals), Ben Nason (15 games, 13 goals), Jayden Post (10 games, 3 goals) and Andrew Browne (1 game) have all come into the team.
The club is urging supporters who are planning on attending the match to bring a blanket to the MCG and donate it to Melbourne’s homeless. Click on the 'Like' button below to show your support of the 'Bring a Blanket' Facebook fan page.
