Collingwood has secured dynamic forward Lachie Schultz on day eight of the 2023 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period after the 25-year-old requested a trade to the Pies last week.

The Club gave up pick 34 in this year’s national draft and a future first round selection to Fremantle for Schultz’s services.

Growing up on the Victoria/NSW border, Schultz is no stranger to the black and white colours after playing his junior football for the Moama Magpies.

He won a best on ground medal for the Magpies in a Murray Football Netball League Senior Grand Final as a 17-year-old, while also playing his trade in the TAC Cup for the Bendigo Pioneers.

After not being selected by an AFL club in his draft year, Schultz made the move to Melbourne to play for Williamstown in the VFL. An impressive 55 goals from 37 games for the Seagulls between 2016-18 saw him selected with pick 57 in the 2018 National Draft by Fremantle.

He has since played 90 AFL games for the Dockers, winning two Glendinning-Allan medals for best on ground in the Western Australian derby and kicking 63 goals in the past two seasons.

Schultz’ tenacious style and team-first approach will compliment the Pies’ already dangerous forward line.

No stranger to hard work given his journey to the AFL stage, Schultz is also a plumber by trade and even spent time on the job site during the Covid shutdown period in 2020 – while a listed Fremantle player.

Schultz may be a tough operator on the field, but off it besotted by pet bulldogs Banks and Saskia.

Schultz is the first player to join Collingwood during the 2023 Trade Period ahead of Wednesday evening’s Trade deadline.
