Anzac Day Match

Collingwood Coach Craig McRae has named his team for the 30th anniversary of the first Anzac Day clash with Essendon.

Recruit Dan Houston will return from a two-match suspension. The dual All-Australian has played three matches this season, averaging 21.7 disposals per match.

Fellow recruit Tim Membrey and midfielder Lachie Sullivan also return after the pair were managed for Collingwood’s 52-point win over the Lions.

Captain Darcy Moore will miss the clash after sustaining a lacerated earlobe in the final quarter of the Pies’ clash with Brisbane. Moore developed inner-ear symptoms this week and has been ruled out of the Pies’ Anzac Day clash.

Ruck Mason Cox and midfielder Ed Allan are the other two omissions.

The two will be joined by 18-year-old William Hayes as the emergencies for the clash, after the 2024 National Draft Pick 56 booted three goals in the VFL’s one-point loss to the Lions last week.

In Moore’s absence, it was announced yesterday that 2024 Copeland Trophy winner Nick Daicos will captain the Pies for the clash.

The 22-year-old becomes the youngest Collingwood captain in 57 years, and the fourth youngest of all-time behind only Len Thompson, Dick Lee and Murray Weideman.

Midfielder Jack Crisp will play his 244th consecutive match which will see the 31-year-old draw level with Jim Stynes for the most consecutive matches in VFL/AFL history.

Houston, Sullivan, Membrey, Dan McStay, Harry Perryman and Ned Long will all play in their first Anzac Day match.

In his 20th season, midfielder Scott Pendlebury will join former Essendon defender Dustin Fletcher with the most Anzac Day matches with 18.

The Magpies' tactical substitute will be named 60 minutes prior to the first bounce and will be selected from the extended bench.
