Collingwood’s VFL side have redeemed themselves with a dominant 75-point win over the Northern Bullants in their Round 7 clash.
With a large crowd of black and white in attendance to see Premiership Magpie Tom Mitchell’s return to football, the Collingwood faithful had plenty to cheer for throughout the afternoon.
Despite the Bullants kicking the first goal of the day, the Magpie forward line came out with a point to prove when they stepped onto Genis Steel Oval, with forward Riley Mason kicking three goals in just the first quarter alone.
Finishing the first quarter with six goals to the Bullants’ two, Collingwood didn’t take their foot off the pedal in the second quarter either, with young forward Charlie West – who was managed against Footscray – kicked his first of the day.
VFL recruit Liam Hude kicked two of his own in the second quarter, while Wil Parker was influential off half back.
Mitchell – who was playing limited minutes – finished his day at half time with 10 disposals (seven contested), six clearances and four tackles.
Within a minute of the second half, West kicked his second for the day after taking yet another strong contested mark directly in front of goal. VFL recruit Christian Algeri quickly followed, finding the sticks to kick his third.
Harry Mahoney quickly followed with his own before Charlie West yet again kicked another, with Collingwood finishing the third quarter with a 62-point lead.
After a busy afternoon in front of goals, the Pies began to slow in the final term, with the Northern Bullants able to add three goals to their tally.
It wasn’t enough however, with Collingwood finishing the day with their own quick three goals to finish as 75-point winners.
