Collingwood’s VFL side have shaken off a rocky second quarter to storm home as 15-point winners over Geelong at Mission Whitten Oval on Saturday night.

After keeping the Cats goalless in the opening term, with goals to Collingwood’s Roan Steele, Harry Mahoney and Ash Johnson securing a 16-point lead at the first break, Geelong kicked five of the six second quarter goals to finish the opening half in front by 10 points.

The second half started back in the favour of the Cats, with another goal extending their lead. Johnson, playing his second game of the 2025 season after making his return from a broken fibula last week, kicked his second to bring the Pies back within 10 points.

Fresh off a five-goal haul against Gold Coast last week, Noah Howes booted his first of the night from 52 metres out after spinning around his defender to narrow the deficit to three points.

Howes’ fellow mid-season draftee Steele, who was fresh of making his AFL debut two weeks ago against Carlton, kicked his third of the night shortly after, bringing Collingwood back in front for the first time since midway through the second quarter.

VFL-listed forward Liam Hude cemented the Pies’ lead heading into the end of the third term, kicking two goals within four minutes to give Collingwood a 14-point lead at the final break.

Geelong’s Ollie Henry’s two final quarter goals weren’t enough to give to bring the Cats back into the game, with Steele kicking a fourth major along with Christian Algeri to cement Collingwood’s 10th VFL victory of the season with a 15-point win over Geelong.
