FREMANTLE has beaten Collingwood at the MCG for the first time in six years in a nail-biting one-point win.
Patrick Voss was the hero with six goals for the Dockers as the Magpies lost their second game in a row, going down 12.7 (79) to 11.12 (78).
Collingwood led by as much as 22 points early in the fourth quarter before the Dockers kicked four consecutive goals to set up a grandstand finish.
Scores were level when Shai Bolton won a controversial free kick for high contact with two minutes remaining, and the behind he kicked from the ensuing free kick put the Dockers back in front.
They maintained that margin until the dying seconds as the Pies surged forward, but Lachie Schultz's kick towards the goal square was well taken by Josh Treacy, who took a game-saving mark.
Treacy also received a 50m penalty, giving the Dockers enough of a buffer to hang on for what could be a season-defining win.
The result puts Fremantle into seventh spot, crucially two games clear of the ninth-placed Western Bulldogs.
It was Collingwood's second straight loss, after falling to Gold Coast last week to end their eight-game winning streak.
