It’s not often that you see a 33-year-old taking flight at the MCG but on the 10th of June 2024, one named Sidebottom rose to the sky.

Steele Sidebottom isn’t known for a high, elegant leap - but as the long, cross-ground switch from Nathan Kreuger came towards him, Sidebottom knew it was his time.

The number 22 left the ground with only one thing in mind. He planted his leg on the shoulder of Melbourne’s eight-gamer Daniel Turner, before hanging for the ball to drop in his hands.

Sidebottom’s Collingwood teammates didn’t know what to feel. It was amazing, impressive, surprising and unbelievable all in a matter of moments.

It was at his highest point that Sidebottom cracked a trademark grin, knowing that he was about to be replayed on every screen in the stadium.

While he went on to miss the eventual set shot for goal, the mark will forever be remembered as an iconic moment in Sidebottom’s impressive career.

Collingwood kicks off the 10th AFLW season against Carlton on Thursday, August 14 at IKON Park. Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster.
