Round 22

Collingwood Coach Craig McRae has named the Magpies’ team for Thursday night’s Round 22 clash with Hawthorn at the MCG.

Defenders Jeremy Howe and Billy Frampton and midfielder Tom Mitchell return to take on the Hawks.

After returning last week for the first time since Round 15, forward Bobby Hill will miss the clash with gastro.

Defenders Charlie Dean and Oleg Markov (omitted) make up the other changes to the team that took the field against Brisbane in Round 21.

Midfielder Steele Sidebottom has been selected to play his 350th game, making him just the second Magpie to reach the milestone after teammate Scott Pendlebury.

Defender Harry Perryman will reach 150 games in the clash. The 26-year-old switched to Collingwood ahead of the 2025 season after 129 games for the GWS GIANTS.

Howe hasn’t played at AFL level since sustaining a groin injury in the Pies’ Round 18 clash with Gold Coast and will make his 159th appearance alongside Sidebottom on Thursday.

Selected for his 12th appearance of 2025, Frampton has built back to full fitness in the VFL in the past fortnight after sustaining a calf strain during Collingwood’s Round 15 win over St Kilda.

Midfielder Ed Allan, defender Wil Parker and ruck Mason Cox are the three emergencies for the match.

The tactical substitution will be selected from the bench and will be named 60 minutes before the first bounce.

Joining elite company, Sidebottom will become the 26th VFL/AFL history to reach the 350-game milestone on Thursday.

He’s the 10th quickest to the milestone with this week’s game 16 years and 88 days on from his debut in Round 7, 2009 against St Kilda.

It’ll be the second match-up between the Pies and Hawks this year after Collingwood came out 51-point winners in the Round 13 clash at the MCG in front of 83,706 fans. It’s the second biggest crowd the Pies have played before in 2025.

Sidebottom was exceptional in that fixture, collecting 27 disposals and booting two goals.

Collingwood fans can watch the game live on Channel 7, Fox Footy and kayosports.com.au, with the first bounce at 7:30pm (AEST).
