Collingwood slumped to its third straight VFL loss, falling to Essendon 9.11 (65) to 15.12 (102)

The Magpies were jumped from the start, as Essendon raced to a 52-point half-time lead.

The Pies were much-improved in the second half but were in too deep of a hole to dig themselves out of.

Daniel Wells was instrumental in bringing the Pies back into the game. The midfielder set up goals for Ben Crocker and Tyson Goldsack while adding one himself in the first few minutes of the third term.

The Pies won the third quarter with four goals to one but the game was virtually in hand for the hosts.

Ben Reid and Anton Tohill were the multiple goalkickers with the Pies, booting two apiece.

The defeat means that the Pies enter their first bye at 1-3. Their next chance to get back on track is on Sunday May 12 against Sandringham.
