Collingwood has recorded a four-point victory over Richmond at the Swinburne Centre on Sunday.

The Tigers looked strong for most of the match as the Pies struggled to stand up to the opposition’s pressure and urgency.

But it all came down to the final minute of the game.

Magpie forward, Sophie Alexander took a high mark just before the siren and followed through booting the match-winning goal. The Pies were able to walk away victorious, 3.8 (26) to 3.4 (22).

The opening term saw an even contest from both sides that provided a goalless quarter with the scores levelled at three-all at the first major break.

The Tigers returned for the second term appearing hungrier and more energised than the Pies.

Jess Kennedy registered the first major of the day early in the second term but Mikala Cann soon followed to take the Pies into the lead for the first time in the match.

A goal from Dalia Edward late in the second saw the Tiges regain the lead where they’d remain until the final quarter.

With the Pies somewhat raising their intensity in the third, the Tiges were limited to a scoreless quarter but the Pies struggled make the most of their opportunities, only managing two behinds.

Sabrina Frederick then booted an important goal for the Tiges early in the final term.

But Magpie, Jaimee Lambert was quick to respond, kicking a goal on an angle to narrow the Tiges’ lead to two-points early in the last.

It was then Alexander’s goal that sparked a much-needed sigh of relief for the Pies to seal the victory.

Brianna Davey was a workhorse in the midfield with impressive defensive efforts and creating strong one-on-one contests.

In the forward line, Jordyn Allen offered a great lead to the ball before she was forced off the field having sustained an injury to her ankle late in the third quarter.

Stacey Livingstone impressed down back, providing a strong hold on a tough opponent in Frederick.

The Pies will next host Carlton at Victoria Park on Sunday 4th August, 11am.
