Key defender Zara Neuwirth has been named to make her AFLW on Saturday in Collingwood’s Round 1 clash with Richmond.
Taken with pick 48 in last year’s National Draft, Neuwirth impressed in the pre-season and has earned her opportunity at the top level.
Measuring at 183cm, Neuwirth will bolster the Pies’ height stocks on Saturday in the backline.
Known for being a composed tall defender, Neuwirth showcased her elite one-on-one defensive abilities in her under-18s campaign with Vic Metro and the Oakleigh Chargers, showing she can be a threat in the air and on the ground.
The 10th debutant named for the clash, Neuwirth will reunite with former Oakleigh Chargers teammates Lucy Cronin and fellow debutants Jemma Rigoni and Charlotte Brewer in the clash.
Collingwood’s full team to face Richmond will be released at 6:20pm AEST on Thursday.
