It’s not uncommon for family history to be the thing the binds generations of Magpie fans, and that was certainly the case when trawling through some of the best fan stories to celebrate Magpie Army Week.

For Andrew, a Legends Member since 1997, his family are people who have bled black and white for decades.

Born into Collingwood after his father Alan introduced him to the Club, Andrew went to his first game when he was four years of age.

Now 36 years old and a 30-season member, some of Andrew’s fondest family memories have come when the Pies have been playing, however he hasn’t always been able to share those moments with the man who first put him in black and white guernsey.

Having moved interstate, watching the Pies in person isn’t as commonplace these days for Andrew.

But the memory that always sits with him is attending the 2023 Grand Final alongside his dad – the first premiership they witnessed together in the flesh, and one that came after thinking it might not happen.

When his dad suffered a heart attack in September 2010 and couldn't attend that year’s Grand Final triumph with him, Andrew was grateful to still have his dad with him despite having missed the memorable 15^th flag.

So when 2018 came around, the pair thought that would finally be their moment together, as they arrived at the MCG for a clash with the Eagles with hope in their hearts.

Sadly, they were left waiting, and Alan had been to his fair share of losing Grand Finals growing up.

As Alan was starting to reach his 70s, the heartbreaking loss to the Eagles had Andrew thinking they might not get the chance to experience premiership euphoria at the home of footy together.

Five years later though, it was their moment.

Their embrace and the tears on the final siren were a culmination of years of magic moments together, finally seeing their side achieve everything they could have ever asked.

2023 not only provided one of the greatest Grand Finals of all time, but memories to last a lifetime for this father and son who epitomise what it’s like to be part of the Magpie Army.
