Collingwood’s VFLW captain, Grace Buchan says she’s excited at the opportunity that waits in Sunday’s preliminary final against the Southern Saints.

“The girls are extremely keen to get out there,” Buchan told collingwoodfc.com.au.

“Obviously there is something very special that lies just around the for us.”

The top two sides will meet in what will be a rematch of the first qualifying final where the Pies managed a 15-point victory at Victoria Park.

Sunday’s game will also be the Pies’ last chance to secure a ticket into the Grand Final having fallen to the Western Bulldogs by 12 points last weekend, a game that Buchan says her team has spent much time reflecting on.

“Coming out of a loss, we’ve taken so many key learning’s from the game and we are clear as to what we’ve got to do come Sunday,” Buchan said.

The Pies find themselves in familiar territory having suffered a 14-point loss to Geelong in last year’s preliminary final.

While Buchan notes the team’s sole focus is on Sunday’s game, she can’t help but think about what’s at stake.

“It would be pretty incredible to make it into the big dance especially considering how close we got last year.

“Talking to the girls, it’s clear there’s a fire in everyone’s bellies and we’re just ready to go.”

The Pies will meet the Saints this Sunday, September 15, 11.45am at Adcon Stadium, Port Melbourne.
