The loss to the Swans produced its share of quirky facts and figures:

* The Pies now have a 3-3 record from their past six games against the Sydney Swans. This is not a bad record when you consider each of those games was played in Sydney - four at the SCG and two at the Olympic Stadium. The past two games between the Pies and Swans have been decided by a total of three points. The last time Collingwood played the Swans in Melbourne was in round 9, 2013, when Sydney prevailed by 47 points at the MCG.

* There was one extraordinarily one-sided statistical category on Friday night: hit-outs. The Pies finished with 63 hit-outs to the Swans' 16. Collingwood ruckman Brodie Grundy ended the match with a career-high 57 hit-outs. His previous best was 53 in last year's Queen's Birthday game against Melbourne.

* Young midfielder Brayden Sier, who was back in the side after missing the previous match due to a leg injury, finished with a career-high 23 disposals (11 kicks and 12 handballs). His previous best was 19 touches in his AFL debut against Gold Coast in round 15.

* Will Hoskin-Elliott continued on his merry way up forward by kicking two goals. He has now kicked 39 goals for the season, which has him equal-ninth in the race for the Coleman Medal. Hoskin-Elliott's previous best goalkicking haul in a season was 26 back in 2014 when he was playing for the Greater Western Sydney Giants.

* Josh Thomas sure knows how to use the footy well. Thomas finished with 18 disposals and a team-high disposal efficiency of 94.4 per cent.
