Collingwood’s Machaelia Roberts will miss the remainder of the AFLW campaign after sustaining a stress reaction to her right leg.

Scans late last week confirmed the injury to her fibula.

Roberts has since returned to the Northern Territory and her family to continue her rehabilitation.

“It has been a great display of commitment for Mickey to leave Darwin and her three young children,” GM of Women’s Sport, Jane Woodlands-Thompson, said.

“Given Mickey will likely miss the opportunity to play this year, we believed it was in her best interests to return home to recover.

“The club will continue to remain in contact with Mickey and monitor her progress.”

Roberts was selected by Collingwood with pick 94 in the 2019 AFLW draft. In doing so, Roberts made history as the first female player from Groote Eylandt to be drafted to an AFLW team. She is yet to make her AFLW debut.
