Collingwood forward Will Kelly has returned to Melbourne for an appointment with specialists after injuring his left elbow the final quarter of the match against Hawthorn in Sydney last night.

Scans in Sydney this morning revealed a fracture above his elbow that will require surgery.

The 19-year-old had been enjoying a strong debut for the club until his mishap, which was the result of a fall from a marking contest.

Kelly and the club will know more about his immediate prospects after consulting with specialists.
