Collingwood captain Nick Maxwell led the entire Collingwood team in a lap of Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens Tan Track for ‘GO THE TAN’ to help raise funds and awareness for the Friedreich Ataxia Research Association (FARA).

The first group of players to run the 3.8km track were senior players Nathan Brown, Dale Thomas, Steele Sidebottom, Heath Shaw and Darren Jolly.

Maxwell first knew about the event when it was flagged on Radio SEN 1116, and quickly gathered support from his teammates.

“We have our recovery session only a couple of hundred metres away so when we heard Andy Maher talking about it on SEN, a few of the boys said it would be a great idea to come across and support it,” Maxwell said after the event.

“They don’t get the funding of a lot of the other charities so it’s important that people can try and help every chance they get.

“If people want to donate, go to FASA.ORG.AU. Just jump on the website and make a donation and all the support is great for the cause.”

Friedreich Ataxia is a fatal degenerative, neurological childhood disease. All profits from the event go to FARA, to help support its continued mission in world leading research into a treatment and cure for Friedreich Ataxia.
