In a new feature to collingwoodfc.com.au, “DT Magpie” will feature an in-depth look into Collingwood related Dream Team information.  The feature will also offer readers the opportunity to submit their own opinions and ideas on all Dream Team discussion.

After an agonising off-season spent by reading worn-out copies of “AFL Prospectus”, DT Magpie is ready for the real deal to begin.

“DT Magpie” will provide helpful DT hints and tips to give you an advantage against your mates.

Last year DT Magpie finished 17th overall in the AFL Dream Team competition and at one point saw his name in the number one spot!

With Thursday night closing in it is imperative to have your three emergencies selected, a couple of rookies ready to debut and the all important captain nomination.

Which Magpie should be selected?  Who is in red hot form?  Which player has had a few quiet weeks and is ready to peak?  Get ready to read and debate for another exciting year of Dream Team action!

Must Haves

Dane Swan (Mid $455,000):  No surprises here.  Coming off a wonderful 2008 season culminating by winning the Copeland Trophy, Swan is one the competitions elite.  Since his first season in 2004, Swan has steadily improved in his average disposals per game.  Last year he collected the pill at a rate of 24.6 times and averaged 103 DT points.  He will no doubt back it up in season 2009.

Alan Didak (Fwd$420,500):  The sixth most expensive forward in the competition is in DT Magpie’s team and should be in yours.  If he was a professional basketball player, Didak would be a combination of Larry Bird and Reggie Miller, devastating with the three-pointer.  Before his club imposed suspension, Didak led the league in total kicks and kicking efficiency.  He nails them from his right and left and is a must-have if you want to be a serious contender.

Ready to breakout

Martin Clarke (Def $317,900):  Played 22 games last season and averaged 72 DT points.  While he has averaged 66 DT points in the NAB Cup, his game against Essendon is a sign of things to come for the 21-year-old.  Clarke had 24 possessions and more importantly 16 three-pointers and six marks to finish the night with 83 DT big ones.  In round 15 against the Crows he finished with 108 DT points.

Shannon Cox (Fwd/Def $260,000):  Any player with the last name Cox deserves a look.  Off the back off a strong preseason, Cox played in every preseason match this year and needs to be considered in your DT line-up.  He averaged a paltry 52.8 DT points in the NAB Cup but if he can hold down the quarterback position down in defence, his numbers should improve.

Cash Pies

Dayne Beams (Mid $86,600):  Unfortunately for Collingwood supporters, the young Magpie will be on everyone’s radar this season after three solid appearances in the pre-season competition.  He averaged 54 DT points in the pre-season including a 30 in the grand final.  With the Magpie’s midfield depth it will be tough to break into the side and hold a spot, however, it’s clear he has a true love for collecting the ball and at a bargain basement price, jump on!

Brad Dick (Fwd $86,600):  His 2008 season never took flight after succumbing to a knee injury in the preseason but Dick is one to look out for this year.  Played six games in his debut season (2007) and looks fit and ready this year.  He has starred in the last three VFL pre-season matches and if Mick decides to give him a go in the senior side he could be your x-factor!

Who are your Collingwood selections?  Are there any players you are still deciding on?  A Magpie captain this week?
