COLLINGWOOD midfielder Tarkyn Lockyer believes the young Magpies have been the standouts on the training track as the club works through its high altitude camp in Arizona.

Lockyer, 29, said players such as Ryan Cook and Danny Stanley are shining during the Pies' tough pre-season overseas initiative, which will conclude next week.

"Most guys are looking pretty good at the moment. We were pretty lucky that everyone that has come over here is up and running," Lockyer told collingwoodfc.com.au on Friday.

"We left 11 guys back at the footy club who couldn't do all the training, so from that perspective, all of us that are here are up and about.

"But both Cook and Stanley have particularly come along well over the last couple of months, so hopefully they can make in-roads on what they did this year."

Lockyer said another exciting aspect of the Pies' pre-season regime is the form and fitness of forward Sean Rusling, who will attempt to finally add to his 17 career games after four seasons ruined by shoulder injuries.

"He's here and looking pretty good. He's looking fit and nice and strong, which is what you want when you've had a couple of shoulders," he said.

"He is doing everything that is expected of him now, and fingers crossed he can stay injury free and we'll see how he goes once the body contact stuff begins.

"He's pretty positive about it at the moment and hopefully he can get through."

The Magpies unearthed John Anthony and Chris Dawes this year while Paul Medhurst found consistency, and with Alan Didak, Brad Dick and Ben Reid to come back into the side in 2009, the side is spoilt with goal-kicking options.

Lockyer said the return of Rusling, coupled with the hopeful recovery of veteran goalkicker Anthony Rocca from an ankle injury, will only sure up the embarrassment of riches the Pies currently have in attack.

"It will be good if Rusling and Anthony can get up," he said.

"Those two guys will free up other targets. The beauty of the way we've played over the past couple of years is that we've had the young guys step in and play those roles.

"John Anthony has come in and kicked a goal in every game he's played, and we've got Ben Reid waiting as well.

"We're pretty blessed we've got a number of targets that we can throw up there."
