Josh Daicos says Jamie Elliott has proved a valuable source of guidance as he adapts to life as an AFL player.

Daicos is just under a month away from his first season of professional football after joining Collingwood with selection 57 in the 2016 National Draft.

The small forward and son of Collingwood champion Peter Daicos has found a new role model in 24-year-old Elliott.

“Billy Elliott has been great,” Daicos told Collingwood Media.

“Being in the forward line [and] playing a similar role, he’s helped me heaps with my positioning and understanding of the game.”

While Elliott was sidelined for the entirety of 2016, Daicos was establishing his position as one of the best young forwards in Victoria’s under-18 TAC Cup competition.

Playing for the Oakleigh Chargers, he averaged a goal-per-game last season, while also performing well for Vic Metro in the Under-18 National Championships.

The 18-year-old now calls the Holden Centre home and is quickly becoming at ease with his surroundings.

“I’m starting to get used to being an AFL player,” Daicos said.

“I’m a lot more comfortable now [but] it’s a big jump from the footy I’ve been playing.”

As for Elliott, a frustrating stint on the sidelines appears to be coming to an end. Director of Football Geoff Walsh in December said the livewire was expected to join full training by the end of the month.

“Jamie is going really well,” Walsh told Collingwood Media.

“He’s pretty much doing everything now, but we’re just monitoring his load so that he’ll be in full training by Australia Day.”

Collingwood fans will have a chance to catch Daicos and Elliott in action at a school holidays open training session this Wednesday morning at the Holden Centre.
