Collingwood has launched its very first women's sport podcast, 'Coffee with Braz'. Hosted by the club's female dual-athlete Ash Brazill, each week she'll chat with a teammate from Collingwood's AFLW or Super Netball teams over a cup of coffee.
The podcast not only aims to tell the story of the athlete's sporting journey but also hopes to show that there's also more to the person than just playing sport. Each episode will uncover the motivations of the player and how they have overcome challenges they have faced in their life.
In episode four, Brazill is joined by Collingwood’s AFLW foundation player and captain, Stephanie Chiocci.
Growing up in an Italian family, Chiocci talks through being a mad Carlton fan and remembers going to Ikon Park and having a kick on the ground with her family. She even had hold her breath when passing Victoria Park on the train.
Chiocci shares her football journey which began at Diamond Creek Football Club where she was awarded the league’s Rising Star Award and Best and Fairest - all in her debut season. This led to her to being selected by the Western Bulldogs at Pick 2 in the first AFLW draft in 2013 for a series of exhibition games where she also captained the side for several seasons.
Her time at the Pies began in 2016 at the inaugural AFLW Draft where she was selected at Pick 11 and went on to make history as the club’s first AFLW captain – a position she has retained across the last five seasons.
Away from the game, Chiocci is a school teacher. Last year, she made the decision to take a term off work to dedicate her time to her role as skipper and to also work on her own game.
