The Magpies had great hopes for their top draftee of 2017, but they couldn’t have foreseen his instant impact, which led to him being crowned the club’s first NAB AFL Rising Star winner. The electrifying forward/midfielder became just the second player to play 26 games in his debut season (the first was Magpie premiership player Scott Russell in 1990) and kicked 38 goals – equal third at Collingwood and the most by a teenage newcomer since the Bulldogs’ Chris Grant tallied 51 in 1990. In the process, he silenced concerns about a minor heart condition.
