Jaidyn Stephenson won’t play in Collingwood's clash with Richmond on Thursday.

Left out of round one after an interrupted summer due to glandular fever, Stephenson will instead play in a reserves scratch match against the Tigers on Wednesday at the MCG. 

The 21-year-old was initially named to play in the season opener when the Pies predicted they would be able to play six on the bench, before a call for the traditional four interchange players was made.

Recruit Darcy Cameron will make his AFL club debut in place of Mason Cox (knee), the ruck/forward receiving a big round of applause from teammates at training on Tuesday morning.

When speaking on Tuesday afternoon, coach Nathan Buckley hinted at Cameron for Cox as the only change from the round one side.

"We've got quite a few players that would see themselves as best 22 players that are outside the best 22 at the moment," Buckley said.

"Mason himself would feel like he could play, but we feel like there's someone (Cameron) that's better prepared right now to play that role.

"Stevo's (Stephenson) forward in his preparation, but we didn't think anyone deserved to come out of the side from round one even as far back as it was.

"Rupert Wills is another one who's had a standout three-week block and was stiff to miss in round one and we went with Tyler Brown and we've gone with Tyler again."

Wills, Cox, Matt Scharenberg, Isaac Quaynor, Brayden Sier and Travis Varcoe were among those to join Stephenson in heading from the track early on Tuesday morning when the AFL side remained on the oval.  

Tyler Brown, Josh Thomas, Jack Madgen, Josh Daicos and John Noble – all of whom played round one – stayed on the track along with Cameron to complete the 80-minute session.

Arriving from Sydney at the end of last season, Cameron played just one game for the Swans in 2018 from three years on the list across 2017-2019.

He is expected to fill Cox's key post in attack with some assistance to Brodie Grundy in the ruck.

Midfielder Adam Treloar stepped up his running capacity on Tuesday morning as he eyes a return inside the next fortnight.

Levi Greenwood (calf) and Tom Langdon (knee) remained on light duties.
