Sam Wright

Wright was announced as the Pies’ Senior Coach ahead of the 2024 AFLW season, having arrived as respected assistant from North Melbourne.

Wright had spent much of his life at North Melbourne having been drafted there back in 2008.

He would go on to have a 136-game career at the Kangaroos over a decade, retiring in 2019 due to injury.

His retirement sparked his career in sports administration and coaching, with his next five years spent at The Australian Ballet, Cricket Victoria, and then back at the Kangaroos in their AFLW program.

Wright’s first season at the helm of the Pies yielded just one win, however with another pre-season of connection, 2025 promises many more.
