We caught up with Dan McStay on his first day at the club to ask a few hard-hitting questions. Get to know our new recruit.

The Magpie Army was a big factor in his decision to join the Pies

"The Magpie Army has been massive for Collingwood this year... they probably helped the team get so far. I've played in front of a fair few big crowds at the MCG but they've always been barracking for the other team - it will be nice to play in front of 80 or 90 thousand and have them in our favour. The Magpie Army was one of the main factors in my decision to play for Collingwood."

His dad owns a tattoo shop

"It's just down the road (from the club) - to be closer to him and be able to go have lunch with him sometimes will be awesome."

Loves his German Shepherd

"His name is Kaiser - he's five years old. He's got a floppy ear and that's how I tell him apart from other Shepherds. He's an absolute sook but he will win you over with his heart."

Moved to Melbourne with partner Kellie

"Kellie is from Melbourne too so it will be great for her to be closer to family. We're looking for a place inner city, we love the lifestyle."

Prides himself on selfless footy

"I try to make sure I'm as selfless as possible, I love doing the team things. Sometimes that goes unrewarded but as long as I'm respected for playing my role within the four walls, that's all I care about. I just want to be a great team man and enjoy the company of my teammates."

His playlists feature a bit of everything

"I don't mind anything from the 80s, I like rap and I don't mind some house stuff as well - I have pretty broad taste."

Former Bombers fan

"I followed Essendon when I was younger but when I was in my teen years I sort of stopped following them and just enjoyed watching good games of footy. So I'll say Essendon... but I wasn't as passionate as some other people I guess."

All time favourite player: 'The Little Master'

"I used to love Gary Ablett Jnr, I thought he was pretty special."

Lives by this mantra

"It's never as good as it seems and it's never as bad as it seems - that's something I've always tried to live by. Football can be very up and down, just trying to stay as level and balanced as possible will help you on the journey."

Often ponders his dream dinner party guests

"i've often thought about this - Michael Jordan, Roger Federer and Denzel Washington would be my first choices. A couple of different people from different walks of life. I think they'd all have some cool stories."
