The Collingwood Football Club is pleased to announce defender Oleg Markov has signed a fresh new contract with the Club.The 26-year-old has signed a one-year deal and will go on to continue his impressive journey in the black and white stripes until the end of 2024.Markov joined the Pies as Rookie in February this year, following training with the Club over the summer as part of the AFL’s Supplemental Selection Period. The defender was selected to fill the squad’s remaining list spot following the injury of Charlie Dean who was placed on the Inactive List.Markov made his AFL debut as a Tiger in 2016 where he spent five seasons before a two-year stint with the Gold Coast Suns.This year Markov averaged 12 disposals across 21 matches, solidifying his place in the Pies’ backline in the second half of the season. The defender has played 72 AFL games.“We are pleased to re-sign Oleg who has committed to the Club for another year,” Collingwood GM of Football Graham Wright said.“Oleg has had a significant impact since he joined our program in February.“His run, creativity, and bounce out of the back-half has contributed to us being a top four team in the competition.“Off the field Oleg is a much-loved teammate and we look forward to what he can do for the remainder of 2023 and into next season.”
