Collingwood is pleased to announce it has signed Muireann Atkinson to the Club’s AFLW side as a rookie.

Hailing from Monaghan in Ireland, the 26-year-old has penned a two-year deal with the Club.

The Captain of Monaghan’s side in the Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA), Atkinson was a member of the 2018 O’Connor Cup Championship side.

Atkinson spent time with Sydney’s AFLW program throughout the 2023 season as a train-on player, impressing with her physicality and foot skills.

Collingwood’s Head of Women’s Football Jess Burger welcomed Atkinson to the Club.

“We’re pleased to welcome Muireann to Collingwood,” said Burger.

“Muireann is an exciting utility who brings a strong appetite for the contest and physicality. She has already demonstrated her ability to upskill and apply both her physical and athletic traits across to our code in a very short amount of time.

“Her effortless sidestep, ability to use the ball on both sides and strong fend off will be key features of her game.

“We’re excited to see where Muireann can take this opportunity and to see where she can take her game over the next two seasons.”

Atkinson becomes the third Irish rookie to join Collingwood’s AFLW list alongside Sarah Rowe and Aishling Sheridan.
