Collingwood’s Brianna Davey has today shared with her teammates and the wider Club that she will be handing over the captaincy ahead of the 2025 AFLW season.

A respected figure on and off the field, Davey’s leadership and career so far have been instrumental in shaping the AFLW competition.

Davey has built an impressive football resumé since debuting for Carlton in the historic inaugural match against Collingwood in 2017.

A dual All-Australian, Davey captained the Blues from 2018 to 2019 before being traded to the Magpies ahead of the 2020 season.

She was appointed Co-Captain of Collingwood in 2021 alongside AFLW foundation player Steph Chiocci and assumed sole captaincy in 2023.

Davey expressed her love and gratitude for the Club.

“It has been such a privilege to lead this team and I thank everyone who has supported me on my leadership journey so far,” Davey said.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the next person take the opportunity and make it their own.

“Personally, after a couple of challenging seasons with injury, I’m keen to focus my energy on the on-field while supporting the next Captain of Collingwood’s AFLW team.”

The dual Collingwood Best and Fairest winner celebrated her 50th AFLW game last season and has led the Magpies as Captain across five seasons.

Collingwood’s Executive General Manager of Women’s Football Jess Burger thanked Davey for the leadership role she has played and will continue to play in the program.

“We thank Bri for her dedication and leadership as Captain – she has been at the heart of this team and truly embodies what it means to be a Collingwood person,” Burger said.

“While Bri’s focus will be on her on-field role, she will continue to play a key role in supporting the next generation of leaders.”

The Club will soon commence the process to appoint its next AFLW Captain, with the announcement to be made ahead of the 2025 season.
