A Club VFLW record was the highlight of the weekend for the Pies, with the team winning by their largest margin of the decade.

Taking on the Western Bulldogs as part of Saturday’s triple-header against the club, the Pies ran out 85-2 winners in the first match of the day.

Improving their season record to 3-0, the Pies started in blistering fashion with six goals to none in the first term.

They managed to keep the Bulldogs scoreless all the way until the final quarter, only letting through two behinds. The black and white meanwhile, piled on 13 goals in the huge win.

Alongside the biggest margin of victory for the decade, it was also the team’s highest score since 2019.

Amelia Peck starred with four goals, while skipper Dom Carbone kicked three goals from 24 touches.

The Pies sit atop of the ladder after three weeks, with a whopping percentage of 270.8, putting them above of fellow undefeated side North Melbourne Werribee.

The VFLW clash was hosted by the Dogs at Mission Whitten Oval, with the VFL game at the same venue later on Saturday.

With a new-look team that included the Club’s three Mid-Season draftees for the first time, the Pies started well to trail by just five points at quarter time, and four points at half time.

The game stayed even as the second half commenced, with new forward Mitch Pidhajski impressing.

The margin was just eight points heading into the final term, with a third win of the season within striking distance, however it wasn’t enough, as the Pies went down by 20 points.

Podhajski kicked two goals in his first match in black and white, while Jack Buller finished with three.

Jakob Ryan (33 disposals), Josh Browne (33 disposals) and Lachlan Sullivan (30 disposals) all put in strong performances as well.

Saturday night’s AFL match at Marvel Stadium completed the triple-header, with the Pies and Dogs doing battle in a brilliant game.

A strong first half from the Bulldogs had them in control of the match to the tune of 17 points at the main break, with the Pies rueing some inaccurate kicking.

Goals to Lachie Schultz, Dan McStay and Roan Steele swung the momentum the Pies’ way early in the third quarter, however the home side wrestled back momentum.

A three-goal margin at the final break was swiftly reduced with a Beau McCreery major within 20 seconds of the fourth term, while Pat Lipinski cut the margin further with his first goal of the match only a few minutes later.

As the intensity went up in the final term both sides had their chances, however it was the Bulldogs who ultimately took the victory by four points.

Jordan De Goey was brilliant on the night with 30 touches and a goal, while Nick Daicos (37 touches) and Scott Pendlebury (33 touches) were also at their typical best.

The Pies’ three teams now take on the Demons, with the VFL/W sides facing Casey this Saturday and the AFL team tackling Melbourne on Monday in a huge King’s Birthday clash.
