Match Review Panel member Michael Christian has provided an exclusive insight into the process which will determine the fate of Taylor Adams.

Adams was seen to be using his knee to make contact with Justin Westhoff’s head in Collingwood’s round 15 clash with Port Adelaide on Thursday night.

While unable to give anything away on how the panel will deliberate, Christian described to Collingwood Media’s ‘Monday’s With Maxy’ how the system will assess the midfielder’s indiscretion.

“What we need to do is determine whether it is classed as intentional or careless,” Christian said.

“Then it’s about where the impact occurred – the body or the head. And then from there it’s a scenario where we’ve got to assess the impact. We will get the benefit of a medical report from the Port Adelaide Football Club.

“So all that goes into the melting pot to determine what, if any, penalty there will be.”

Adams would be a significant loss to Collingwood’s lineup as it prepares for Saturday’s clash with West Coast at Etihad Stadium.

He produced a career-high 38-game against Port Adelaide in a performance Nick Maxwell described as “sensational”.

“Taylor Adams was best on ground, I thought he was outstanding again,” Maxwell said.

“He was just tough in and under. He had 38 disposals, seven clearances, six tackles and a goal that’s going to be replayed for a long time.”
