Dick injured his left shoulder in the win over Sydney in round 13, the same shoulder which he had keyhole surgery on in December of last year.
It’s a devastating blow the promising forward who had played two senior matches this year including booting a bag of four in the draw with Melbourne.
“The decision was made to have a full reconstruction on Tuesday afternoon,” general manager of football Geoff Walsh told Collingwoodfc.com.au on Friday afternoon.
“We expect him to be available for full training at the end of December.
“The shoulder hasn’t responded and he has to have a full reconstruction.”
Originally recruited from East Fremantle with the 44th overall pick in the 2006 draft, Dick has played 24 matches at AFL level since debuting against Richmond in round three, 2007.
He missed the entire 2008 season while recovering from a knee reconstruction, an injury sustained during the 2008 pre-season competition, but returned to the Collingwood side in 2009, playing 16 senior games, and was one of three Magpies nominated for the AFL Rising Star award (along with Dayne Beams and Jaxson Barham), following a blistering five-goal haul against Melbourne in round 11.
