On the eve of his 200th AFL game, Ben Johnson has a chat with Paul Licuria on this week's 'Latte with Lica'.
Collingwoodfc.com.au has published several excerpts from the CTV piece.
Paul Licuria: Talk to me about your 200th game, you must be extremely proud. You were a longtime Collingwood supporter as a kid and now you are playing for the football club wearing number 26.
Ben Johnson: I hadn’t thought about it until this week. My parents, girlfriend and friends have brought it up. It’s a big occasion and it’s something I will look back on. It’s been 10 years and it has gone pretty quick.??
PL: Did you think you would play 200 games???
BJ: Through the 2008 season I really lost passion for the game. I thought that might be my last year. I had a good chat with Mick and my parents at the end of the year and decided to give it one more crack. All of sudden my passion returned and I enjoyed it.??
PL: I remember that game-saving tackle against Port Adelaide (2002 qualifying final).??
BJ: That game was a weird game. It was probably the worst game I ever played but that tackle that I put on Burgoyne at the end (of the game) pretty much saved my career. ??
The next week was the best game (18 disposals) I played in, the prelim against Adelaide. The crowd would have been 95,000 all Collingwood people and it was just loud. I remember Pebs (Anthony Rocca) kicking that goal from centre half forward that got us into the grand final.??
PL: How do you compare the 2010 side to the other sides you have played in???
BJ: If you compare it to the 2002 and 2003 sides, it’s a lot more skillful and there is a lot more talent in it. The 2002 side, as a team we were just perfect. That’s why we made the grand final. I think this team now is getting to that stage and I think we are getting to it at the right time of the year.
