Collingwood has secured an impressive 48-point win over St Kilda in the regional challenge clash at MC Labour Park on Friday. The Magpies started brilliantly kicking the first four goals of the opening term. Josh Fraser, who finished with four majors, and Travis Cloke (two goals), dominated in attack throughout the 15.10 (100) to 7.10 (52) victory.Paul Medhurst was also playing some outstanding football in the opening term, however he unfortunately suffered a foot injury after kicking an impressive crumbing goal and took no further part in the match.Exciting 18-year-old Brad Dick, who was lively up forward and showed off his blistering speed by chasing down Saint Brendon Goddard, also suffered an injury after being felled behind play by Steven Baker just before half time. Dick fell awkwardly after the collision and was nursing a sore lower left leg after the match. The club is confident the injuries suffered by Medhurst and Dick are not too serious.Despite these injuries, Collingwood extended its 12-point quarter time lead to 31 points at half time on the back of a magnificent first half from running defender Heath Shaw, who had 21 touches and two goals to the main break before being rested in the third term. Both teams booted four goals in the third quarter as the Saints tried to get back into the match, but Collingwood continued to run hard and attack out of the back half and took a 28-point break into the final stanza.Pleasingly the Magpies showed the benefits of a demanding pre-season which began back in Arizona in November, by running the game out well by kicking three goals to none in the fourth term, with Leon Davis and Ryan Cook showing plenty of dash throughout the match.Scott Pendlebury was showing off some of his exquisite skills in traffic, while Dale Thomas booted two goals in an energetic display up forward. The club's first pick in the 2006 draft, Ben Reid, impressed with his work rate and strong leading in the forward line, while Alan Toovey, who was promoted off the rookie list at the end of 2006, continues to improve as a midfield option.Shane Wakelin, who kept Saints spearhead Fraser Gehrig to just one goal, and Nick Maxwell both played fine games in defence, while Sam Iles racked up plenty of touches and ran hard out of the back half.James Clement enjoyed his first practice match of the pre-season and was typically composed and strong when he took to the field in the second half, while Paul Licuria, Shane O’Bree, Dane Swan, Simon Prestigiacomo and Tarkyn Lockyer all benefited from the hitout.Club captain Nathan Buckley was a late withdrawal after pulling up slightly sore from training on Thursday.Collingwood will now travel to the New South Wales Riverina town of Narrandera to take on Sydney in a regional challenge clash on Friday 9 March.COLLINGWOOD 4.1, 8.5, 12.9, 15.10 (100)ST KILDA 2.1, 3.4, 7.5, 7.10 (52)Goals: Collingwood: Fraser 4, Thomas 2, H Shaw 2, Cloke 2, Davis, Medhurst, Pendlebury, O'Bree, Burns.
