The Magpies led by 46 points at the main break but surged in the second half, outstripping the Kangaroos with 12 goals to one in the final hour to record their greatest ever winning margin against the Shinboners.
Steele Sidebottom displayed his penchant for kicking goals against the Roos, booting four only a year after kicking a career-high five in round six the previous season.
Eleven Collingwood players were among the goals, while the defenders put on a masterclass in restricting North to only three majors for the afternoon.
Dane Swan's charge towards his Brownlow Medal continued as he gathered 39 possessions and slotted two goals. Others such as Scott Pendlebury, Dale Thomas, Heath Shaw and Leon Davis all put their names up in lights and 21-year-old Queensland product Lachlan Keeffe made a promising debut at centre half forward in the absence of the injured Chris Dawes.
