Collingwood senior coach Mick Malthouse and star defender Harry O’Brien will join Olympic rowing gold medallist Mike McKay as guest speakers for a charity event aimed at providing tools to guard against depression and suicide, to be held at Xavier College on Tuesday 16 March.
Mick, Harry and Mike will discuss practical tools and present on the importance of skills acquired through sport and role models to develop resilience and deal with adversity.
The ‘Effective Mentoring through Sport’ seminar is being supported by the N.I.C.K. Foundation, which was set up by a group including Collingwood’s director of sport science David Buttifant, following the tragic death of his 20-year-old son Nick, who took his own life in February 2009.
