Collingwood has made two changes to its team for Saturday’s ultra-important clash with rival Carlton at the MCG, with vice-captain James Clement making his long-awaited return and Ryan Cook set to debut.

19-year-old midfielder Cook, who was taken from the Dandenong Stingrays with the 23rd overall selection in the 2005 AFL Draft, will become the 1070th player ever to pull on the black and white stripes, and the ninth player to debut for the Magpies this season.

He follows fellow 2007 debutants Daniel Nicholls, Shannon Cox, Brad Dick, Alan Toovey, Tyson Goldsack, Danny Stanley, Martin Clarke and Ben Reid. Cook has regularly been named among the best players this season for Collingwood's VFL affiliate Williamstown, and is a versatile hard-running midfielder.

Collingwood also welcomes back dual Copeland Trophy winner Clement, who will play his first senior game since round six, and add considerable stability and experience to the backline.

Young gun Scott Pendlebury is out after injuring his foot against Brisbane last week and is expected to miss around a month, while veteran Paul Licuria has been omitted.

Paul Medhurst, Shannon Cox and Rhyce Shaw, who all impressed with fine outings for Williamstown last week, are the three Magpie emergencies.

Meanwhile, Carlton has made three changes, losing Matthew Lappin and Simon Wiggins to hamstring injuries, and Anthony Koutoufides to retirement. It has brought in Adam Bentick, Shaun Grigg and debutant Michael Jamison.
